I have a habit of falling for large, heavy impract I have a habit of falling for large, heavy impractical items...and of course the further away the better. Today's addition is an old Major Bros paint display stand, complete with hand painted detail, from Lou in the Goulburn Valley. At 73 he has more projects on the go than most would attempt in a lifetime...half a dozen early cars and jeeps in various stages of restoration, a beautiful old scotch oven, oh, and his dream home on the banks of the Broken River which is at frame stage. Sensing my interest he took me on a tour of his many treasures...complete with anecdotes attached to all. At this stage the display stand was just a bonus. I gave him a bottle of Durif. He replaced a wheel nut on my trailer that his eagle eyes spied was missing earlier on...just to square the ledger. Fair trade. He was the sort of man who was troubled by the fact we couldn't shake hands...but...while chatting he also sold me an enormous 1.5 tonne fire pit that I now have to work out how to get home and maneuver into place...perhaps we can shake hands when I go back for it. #rustygold #australianpickers #rutherglen #vintage #industrial #durif

Three from three! The @mountmaryvineyard opened a Three from three! The @mountmaryvineyard opened a little lean and mean, though still mentos fresh at 11.5%. I gave it a hard stare and flickers of faded currant, cigarbox, rosemary and gossamer fine tannin make an appearance, and kept trucking to a beautifully complete wine. The @wynnscoonawarra OV Shiraz is a sentimental favourite. Great out of the gate with dried cherry, anise and sweet earthy notes. Richer, rounder, with ropier tannins, slightly sweet/sour which is typical of the vineyard, and finishes with cocoa spice. Another win for off vintages ageing well. Third or fourth time I've seen the @allsaintsestate 80 VP and it's just a profound wine. As good as any Australian VP I've seen. I'll fight to the death when I see it at auction. #1980 #yarravalley #glenrowan #rutherglen #fuckyeah
